The place
Perfectlyimperfect.
In 1999 Allen Walker, a carpenter like his father, bought a one-room fishing shack on the Cape Fear River. He has been building outward ever since, with reclaimed materials, very few walls, and art on every surface.
Windows from the old Lumina Pavilion at Wrightsville Beach. Bottles set in the walls like stained glass. A dried Century-plant stalk rising three stories. Old Mercedes with plants growing out of them, a bus, two Airstreams, a carport roofed with an upside-down boat. Guests who find it “a little much” at first tend to leave hugging people.
- 10wooded acres on the Northeast Cape Fear
- 1999the year it began as a fishing shack
- ~3,000sq ft of artist-built log cabin
- 60 ftrowing scull hung along the main ridge
- 1907Knabe 9′ concert grand, self-playing

I never expect to be finished.
